After these states, his itinerary will lead him to West Bengal and Bihar.
In a post on social media, PM Modi expressed his commitment to participating in events in Churachandpur and Imphal, emphasizing the government's dedication to the inclusive and comprehensive development of Manipur. He will lay the foundation for various projects, including road and national highway initiatives, as well as women's hostels. Among the projects being inaugurated are the civil secretariat in Mantripukhri, an IT SEZ building, and a new police headquarters, which will feature a unique market for women from various districts.
First Visit to Manipur Post Ethnic Violence
On Saturday, PM Modi arrived in Imphal, marking his first visit to Manipur since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023. He was welcomed at the Imphal airport by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goyal.
Support from Opposition for Modi's Visit
During PM Modi's visit to Manipur, CPI(M) MP John Brittas expressed support for the initiative. He stated that opposition parties have long advocated for the Prime Minister to lead a delegation of all parties to Manipur to restore peace and harmony in the state. Speaking to a news agency, he noted that for the past two years, Modi had not been receptive to their requests, including calls for a full discussion in Parliament. While he acknowledged that it may be too late, he still supports the visit, hoping it will unite various organizations and foster trust and confidence.
